Finding Your Inspiration

Finding inspiration when it comes to design, whether in a garden or home interior can be a daunting task, especially when you hit a creative block or dead-end. Let’s face it, it happens to all of us at some point or another.

When I hit a creative road block in a project, I’ve learned not to panic but to go back to what has always worked for me, and that is, letting my eyes guide me! I’ve always been a very visual person, so I’ll start scanning through all my design books, magazines, Instagram, etc. I even like to get out and drive to certain cities that I love and just cruise the neighborhoods, looking at all of the beautiful houses and gardens, taking notes of everything I find inspiring. The more images you look at, the more new ideas will start presenting themselves to you as well.

For interior inspiration, it could be a certain antique piece that you acquire or fabric pattern, or color combination that you saw in a book, magazine, etc. For gardens, it could be a dynamic plant combination that you saw in your neighborhood on a leisurely drive.

I keep a notebook with me at all times to make notes of what I see as well as on my phone with the many pictures I have taken. After awhile of looking through different sources for inspiration and noticing and focusing more on your surroundings, you’ll start seeing new ideas and possibilities that previously had not presented themselves to you. The spark of new ideas will definitely jump-start your creative juices, and before you know it, you’ll be right back on track creating that beautiful home and/or garden project!
